Today is day 1 of my 100 days of health.

There is just something that feels right about getting active on a Monday morning, especially when it is early and you are on the road with the birds starting to sing their first song.  It is quiet and I decided not to bring music along today.  I need my mind to be still and become aware of my surroundings.

Tomorrow is going to be my health check day.  I am going to get weighed, glucose and cholesterol screening, and see what my blood pressure is doing and I will share those daunting measurements with you.

Let me tell you a bit more about myself

I am turning 45 on 29 December, happily married with 2 kids ages 15 and 12.  Warren is in the offshore industry and he is home for two months and gone for two months, and when he is home he is full time committed to VanZylStead

I have always liked being active.  We hiked Machu Picchui for our honeymoon, and in our early years of being married and before we had the kids, we cycled and did 3 Cape Argus cycle tours all under 3 hours. I have never been a real gym cat, but enjoy a good and sweaty spin class.  As the kids are growing up and we are stepping on in years, schedules are getting busy, and before I knew it, I was less and less in the gym, hiked less, and slowly started adding some kg.  Look, I am not severely overweight –  let’s see what the scale is saying tomorrow – but I am sure I am about 10kg overweight, gosh – a few years ago you could do a few gym sessions and lose 5 k’s, now, I have a bad week and I add 5!

We make little decisions that affects us. Drink too much wine over the weekend. Grab a bag of chips instead of an apple.  Finish the kid’s snacks, after you had yours – am I the only one?  Lunch on the run – there is so little time, and that lunch is whatever you can get your hands on.  This is all becoming a bad habit!  I am finding way too many excuses for me not to get my Shit in order.  We get so consumed by what we have to do, the children, social media, friends, and commitments, that we neglect ourselves!

So, I am consciously making changes. Small ones, nothing radical!

Instead of Grenola and Yogurt I had scrambled eggs, chicken, and cucumber. I made the time to sit down and have breakfast.

Lunch was not on the run.  I made a delicious sandwich filled with goodness out of the garden. Took 10 min for myself and enjoyed it.  Tonight we will sit down for a good family dinner around the dinner table, because let’s face it, some days it is easier to go sit in front of the TV.

I had a beautiful walk this morning, with the sun bursting through the clouds I was grateful for all I have and thanked the Lord for all my blessings. Chalkboard drawings made me smile, and I had to appreciate the noughts and crosses. Simple childhood fun!

Changing bad habits is not easy, but I am changing from I want to be fitter to I am becoming fitter. I am changing I want to drink less to I am not drinking, I am changing from I want to be more focused, to I am focused. My habits will only change if who I am chance. Yes, I am listening to Atomic Habits 🙂

Join me tomorrow as I will be sharing basic recipes for a sweet treat, give you all the health numbers and measurements (yikes!), and share basic exercises that I did.  Weekly I will share healthy recipes, and we will have a variety of mocktails to try out over the weekend.  We do not want to be unsocial now, do we?

See you tomorrow Friends
