Rooibos tea, native to South Africa, was taken by two ladies and made into a cordial, created from scratch in their kitchens, before upscaling to a commercial factory while retaining the homemade recipe authenticity.
Meet Two in a Bush
Marie-Louise Oostehuizen and Hetta van Deventer-Terblanche, 2 dynamic ladies, took their knowledge and skills in the agricultural, horticultural, and food industry and created a cordial that is a much healthier option than the sugar loaded sodas on the market today.
“Both of us had SodaStream machines at home and we could just not find a cordial to our liking, so we decided to make our own. Home carbonation machines make a lot of sense in terms of cutting out single-use plastics and reducing your carbon footprint, and it is in line with our philosophy of treading lightly on earth. Hetta has two teenage sons, and kids love to drink cool drinks – we created a healthier alternative to sugary sodas for them.”

The first bottle of Two in a Bush Rooibos Cordial was produced in 2020, during the Covid-19 lockdown, in their farm kitchen in the Franschhoek valley.
Why the name Two in a Bush? “A little play on two friends who stopped beating around the bush, and obviously it is a rooibos bush, and our motto that we live a life of gratefulness – we live by the saying, a bird in the hand is worth more than two in a bush, we have enough, we are happy for what we have. We work extremely hard, but we also laugh a lot, and with the little play on words here, it says a little bit about the fun we have too.”
Sourcing organic Rooibos and Honeybush leaves, the teas are brewed with pure spring water from the Drakensberg Mountain range. The tea is then blended with high quality botanicals and spices and for sweetness natural fruit concentrates are added creating a cordial that is low in sugar (14 cal when diluted/100ml). It is so good for you the cordial is endorsed by Diabetes South Africa and the GI Foundation, recommended for diabetics as an Often Food.
With rooibos tea being rich in antioxidants and essential minerals, NO caffeine, and packed with anti-inflammatory properties, this cordial is unique and a healthy choice for the entire family. The cordials are produced in small batches in a FSSC 22000 compliant facility with high standards from the raw materials to the final product.
Two In A Bush is an economical choice for the entire family. One bottle can yield an astonishing 3.5L, or 17 servings! It is healthy, delicious and versatile.
- For a refreshing summer drink, fill a glass with ice-cubes. Add 60ml of Two in a Bush Cordial and add 300ml sparkling water, simply delicious for the entire family to enjoy.
