About us

Natasha

Hi, I am Tash, Natasha, Rooikoppie, Mamma and Wifey

Hubby Warren, myself and our 2 kiddies, along with Ouma and Oupa stay in Durbanville, Cape Town.  Our home is filled with furry kids, rats (whom Leila adores), way too many birds (that keep eating our young seedlings) and Michael’s toy cars and sticks that we all constantly trip over.

The last few years have shown us that life can change in mere moments. The world seems to be dominated by convenience and this has removed a needed focus on health and quality. We feel that convenience culture has caused us all to lose sight of what is important and this is not what we should be teaching our children.

To us, VanZylStead means sharing our strategy towards doing better by showing you how we strive to live our lives a little slower, with fewer chemicals and as close to nature’s goodness as possible.

So far, this journey has seen us using herbs and essential oils as our go-to medicinal remedies, reducing our need for western medicine where possible and lastly, changing our urban garden into a sustainable food forest as we work towards growing our own food.

We by no means succeed in this mission every day, we still face challenges, but through our trials and errors we would like to show you how, by making small changes in your daily life, you could soon feel equipped to start with a few simple projects of your own.

You could slowly start replacing one chemical at a time and finally plant that small vegetable garden you’ve always wanted. We would like to share how these changes could get you to a place where you could soon be using your produce to cook healthy and tasty meals from scratch, all while getting the kids involved.

So, let’s cook that jam together, bottle those cucumbers for later and make making pasta a family affair. It is much easier than you think, and so worth it.

Join us as we challenge ourselves to master new skills, be kinder to the environment, and with a little effort inspire our immediate circle to start making those small changes in their homes too.

Let’s be the change together.

Enjoy this journey with us.

Tash and Family
