Mwah! Dis amper TE lekker

Lactose intolerance affects millions of South Africans, with studies by Storhaug et al. revealing a staggering 81% prevalence.  Abdominal pain, bloating, and diarrhea after consuming milk have millions of South Africans looking for a milk alternative.

This was the same for Sean Willard’s family. His son Nathan was the driving force that led the family to look in the aisles for lactose-free alternatives.  Sean was on board with the idea of lactose-free options but could not stand the taste of 99% of the products on the marketing.  In March ’22, he embarked on a journey with his friend Dr. Leon De Klerk.

They saw a gap in the market for a milk alternative that tasted great, had good foam, and had a consistently silky and smooth texture.

Sean Willard is a pharmacist turned entrepreneur who has spent over 35 years in the healthcare industry, working as a retail pharmacist, trainer, and NPD consultant for multinational health supplements.  With his extensive knowledge and many revisions later, Sean launched Mwah! Barley Milk with Good Taste, Good Foam, and a Good Feel.

The milk alternative market has recently seen an influx of plant-based options. From almond to oat, soy to coconut, these dairy substitutes have offered not just variety but also a host of health benefits.  Barley milk is derived from a humble grain, and it is proving to be a powerhouse of nutrition and health benefits.

Barley boasts a high fiber content, including both insoluble and soluble fibers, which can contribute to improved digestion. The presence of selenium, a potent antioxidant, can help combat free radicals and potentially destroy cancer cells.

The choice of oil that Mwah! use is a cold-pressed sunflower oil. Contrary to common knowledge, there is a notable difference between typical sunflower oil, which tends to be rich in linoleic acid, which possesses more inflammatory properties, and the cold-pressed sunflower oil in Mwah!  The cold-pressed oil boasts over 83% Oleic acid and minimal linoleic acid content, rendering it inherently anti-inflammatory. This distinct characteristic has earned Mwah! approval from the Heart & Stroke Foundation, which uses Mwah! as a key component of its healthy eating plan.

From the grain that is grown in South Africa to the production process, this product is PROUDLY SOUTH AFRICAN and the first in the South African market.

Mwah! Barley Milk ticks all the boxes. It is kosher and halaal certified, Vegan, and approved by the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

“Mwah! is a pioneering brand focused on delivering delicious and innovative plant-based alternatives to dairy products. Committed to both taste and nutrition, Mwah! aims to revolutionize how people experience and enjoy wholesome goodness and make healthier choices delightful and accessible.”

Lactose intolerant? Vegan? Want to make more conscious decisions about your health and nature? This milk alternative is soy-free, with no added sugars, rich in vitamins B2, B12, and D, and brought to the market by a Dad who needed to get milk that tasted Mwah!
