to diffuse or not to diffuse

Our journey with essentials oils started a long time ago, but a year ago, I decided it was time for the family to actively start living a non-toxic life. That included looking at our life holistically. This meant understanding preventive techniques rather than with providing symptomatic relief.

One of the ways I found, that I can help my family with building our immune systems, creating an environment perfect for study afternoons or for me simply to ditch fragrance candles was to start using a good quality diffuser.diffuser

Essential oils are the essence that comes from the flowers, petals, leaves, roots bark, fruit, resins, seeds, needles and twigs from a plant or tree.

A Oil diffuser is a device that breaks essential oils down into smaller molecules.

When inhaled, the scent molecules in essential oils travel from the Olfactory system, part of the brain connected to smell including nose and brain, to the lungs and then to the other parts of your body.

Essential oils can also be absorbed by the skin while diffusing.

essential oilsSimply put, inhaling essential oils is not just pleasant because of their beautiful scent and aromas that they release, but it can positively effect your mental and physical wellbeing.

Leila, our eldest, suffers constantly from sinus irritation.

It warms my heart when in the evening I hear her go into the Oil room to go and find her favourite oils. Peppermint, Eucalyptus, Thyme and Lavender. For her these oils gives her a peaceful night’s sleep as they ease the congestion and open her airways.

When Flu season is here and the kids are running in between school and friends houses, I make sure that the diffuser is always going. Lavender, Eucalyptus, Tea Tree and Lemon are my go to combination too boost our immune systems.

When the days are long and you feel like life is running out under you and that slight hint of anxiety creeps in, I make sure to add Bergamot, Frankincense, Lavender and Lemongrass to my Diffuser.

A good quality diffuser distributes essential oil molecules into the air effectively, making diffusing and excellent way to maximize the beneficial properties of essential oils.

I hope you are enjoying this journey with me. If you have a oil that you have found has helped you in a specific way please share that with me.

Stay warm friends out of a very chilly Cape Town.

Tash
